The Arupadai Veedu

6 sacred sites

The six temples of Murugan in Tamil Nadu — his six battle camps (padai veedu). Each temple marks a site of significance in the mythology of Murugan and represents a different aspect of his divine energy.

Significance

The Arupadai Veedu circuit is among the most important pilgrimage traditions in Tamil culture. Murugan — as the deity of Tamil language, of youth, of spiritual knowledge — is inseparable from Tamil identity.

Origin Story

Murugan, born from the third eye of Shiva, was given command of the divine army (Deva Sena) to defeat the demon Surapadman. The six Arupadai Veedu temples mark the camps where Murugan rested and prepared during his campaign — each site charged with the energy of that moment.
